Founders Rachel Morgan and Fiona Denosowicz were interested in creating a new way for BASIS students to connect over their passion for reading. They came up with the idea of starting their own book club, allowing students to learn about and maybe find a new interest in something they could never see themselves reading before. “We created this club to foster connections between readers from around the school,” says Rachel Morgan. Due to their drive to build a safe space for teens to talk about the books they are interested in, the Between the Lines Book Club was born.
A typical meeting in this new book club consists of twenty to twenty-five minutes of reading time, a lively discussion about the current book, and a fun book related craft or activity. A new club book is picked every couple of months through a voting system, taking recommendations from members. The current book being read is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
The founders are hoping to start a yearly book drive to help BASIS students gain volunteer hours and spread the word about the club. This book club is a great place for members to decompress after a stressful day in school. Are they just reading books or are they reading between the lines?
